IN MEMORY ofMr John Brett Gardener (1930 – 2025).
Rest in Peace John Gardener, a beloved and long-standing member of Good Shepherd-Protea, passed away peacefully. John received the highest award given to a lay person in the Anglican Church by His Grace Archbishop Thabo Makgoba on 13 June 2024 – ‘The Order of Simon of Cyrene’. Many of us have been blessed by the 60+ hymns he wrote, and he also served our community faithfully for years taking the Church Council Minutes. John's vision led to the creation of the Good Shepherd Library, a wonderful collection of books we all enjoy. John served Bishops in so many ways, having attended the Prep and College as a schoolboy. He was the school’s 11th Principal. He served Bishops with distinction, as a teacher and finally as its Principal. He was a Council member and a Vice-President of the ODU.
